Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
The course code within Library and Information Studies is LIS 7000W. Before applying it is essential to have considered and outlined a research topic of sufficient scope that it will make an original contribution to knowledge. LISC cannot undertake supervision in all topic areas and applicants are advised to review the areas of interest outline in the research page.
Examination is by thesis, which should not exceed 80 000 words.
In order to proceed with registration for the PhD, we would in the first instance require a research proposal from you to ensure that we have the necessary expertise in the department to supervise you, and then also to decide who would be the most appropriate supervisor. Once this has been established, the official registration process can proceed.
